EARLY CHILDHOOD

As part of our ‘cradle to grave’ work, Tairāwhiti REAP strongly supports our communities with Early Childhood learning.

We know that the first 1000 days of a child’s life are critical to their future success, and provide support to early child centres, whānau and to tamariki across the region.

We do this through having staff dedicated to this role, with a staff members working with centres; including community based centres, kohanga reo and directly with whānau.

We have two staff members working with whānau where their children do not access existing early child hood services, for a wide variety of reasons, as Engaging Priority Families staff members. One works up the East Coast and the other in the Gisborne Rural district.

We have two staff members working with community based centres and kohanga reo across Gisborne Rural and the East Coast. They are soon to be joined by another staff member to be starting later in the year in the Wairoa District.

We provide opportunities for early childhood staff from across the region to learn together on teaching areas where there is a mutual interest.
